West Kilimanjaro

Located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, this remote community owned Wildlife Management Area (WMA) provides travelers with access to a wild and incredibly scenic corner of Maasai land. The land is leased from the local Maasai and is a true wilderness area with open plains, acacia woodland and above all, spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

West Kilimanjaro, often also referred to as South Amboseli, comprises of semi-arid acacia savanna running northwest from the base of Kilimanjaro to the border of Amboseli National Park. The drive itself is exciting as you are treated to views of the foothills of the majestic Kilimanjaro and occasionally that of its snow-capped peaks. You will also discover the stunning open, empty stretches of savannah dotted with wild bush and acacia woodland. Maasai herdsmen co-exist with a remarkable variety of wildlife, including elephants, wildebeest, zebra, eland, impala, Grant’s gazelle, yellow baboon, and hartebeests, predators can be seen hear although are very shy like hyenas, jackals, leopard, cheetah, and lions.
