Mount Oldonyo, also known as Oldoinyo Lengai, is an active volcano located in Northern Tanzania. It is the only volcano in the world that erupts carbonatite lava. With an elevation of 2,960 meters, it has a distinct appearance due to its black or dark gray carbonatite lava flows. The volcanic activity is frequent but not explosive, and the lava is cooler and more fluid compared to typical volcanic lava. Mount Oldonyo holds cultural significance for the Maasai people, who consider it a sacred mountain. Climbing the mountain can be challenging but offers stunning views of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Natron. It is advisable to be well-prepared and guided when climbing.
